Rating System
14/04/2025
As applied to records, our rating system is defined as:
1 = Little or no artistic merit. To be avoided.
2 = May have redeeming features, but generally workmanlike. Can be listened to, and may have commercial success, but exists entirely or almost entirely within frameworks already defined elsewhere.
3 = A work that encapsulates an existing genre effectively and may contain prominent hits. Could be commercially successful and may contain minor innovation, but does not significantly push any new boundaries.
4 = An influential, popular or very successful work that pushes a genre or movement along or contains a very high standard of work within an existing genre.
5 = A work that either represents the apex of a particular style, genre or artistic movement, or one that creates or materially shapes and defines a new paradigm.
